Black Friday and Small Business Saturday

Thanksgiving is coming up soon and that means that you need to be prepared for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday..

In the past, smaller retailers have found that they can't compete with the big stores on Black Friday.

So, a few years ago, American Express started promoting the Saturday after Thanksgiving as
"Small Business Saturday". The idea is that consumers will be done with their Black Friday shopping and will be inclined to visit the smaller retailers in their area on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.

I'm a big supporter of anything the smaller retailer can do to bring in traffic is a good idea.

So I'm suggesting that each independent Scrapbook store have some aggressive plans for doing a big
business on "Small Business Saturday".

Work with your Reps on getting specials that most vendors offer for this event. It's not too late to do that if you act quickly.

If you don't have a Rep contact the vendors directly to find out what their offers are. I'm sure most  Scrapbook and Paper Crafting vendors will have strong promotions you can take advantage of.

Use your newsletter, social media, and other forms of  advertising to let your customers know  what you'll be offering for Small Business Saturday.

You should be open on Black Friday with all of your specials in effect, but plan on doing most of your business on Saturday .

And don't forget to have your store all decked out for Christmas before Thanksgiving arrives.

Happy Holidays

Sandy
