Small Business Saturday
Every Retailer is aware of "Black Friday".
That's the Friday after Thanksgiving and is said to be the start of when Retailers go " in the black"
for the year.
Black Friday is heavily promoted by the major Department Stores, Big Box Stores, and other large retailers.
Smaller, independent retailers tried to tie into the "Black Friday " concept but found that there was so much
major store promotion that customers just didn't have time to get to the "independents".
In 2010 American Express came up with the concept of " Small Business Saturday" and promoted the Saturday after Thanksgiving as the day to shop the smaller, independent Brick and Mortar stores in your vicinity.
This gave the consumers a chance to not only shop the majors on Friday , but also get into the "independents" on Saturday.
You can get more information on Small Business Saturday on Wikipedia.org or Google Small Business Saturday and find some websites on the subject.
I know some independent Scrapbook retailers have participated in Small Business Saturday and have been very successful.
I suggest every smaller, independent Retailer look into this for this year . Be ready for business on Black Friday but put your major effort on " Small Business Saturday".
Sandy
