Business Tips, April 2011 Planning Sales

Planning Sales ......There's nothing you do that's more important in your business than the planning process. That includes planning sales, planning stock levels, planning markdowns, planning purchases planning cost control, etc.

On my website, (http://www.sandywoodford.com/) I use the term "Planning for Success" Success in any endeavor is not a matter of luck. You will be successful if you plan to be successful. On this blog I'll be addressing the planning process I mention above.

First let's address planning sales. I'm sure every business owner keeps a record of their sales. knowing what your sales are is the first step in planning future sales as well as stock levels, purchases etc. You need to post your daily sales to a log so you can determine your average daily, weekly, monthly and yearly sales. If you have a sophisticated POS program all the better, but you can do the same thing by hand in a notebook.

I suggest you also track your sales by classification, such as sales by cardstock, sales by design paper, sales by stickers etc. I think a very important classification to track is sales for rubber stamps. Rubber stamps is becoming a very important category for the scrapbook/paper crafting retailer . Many cash register systems allow you to ring up sales by classification. If you're already doing that, great. If your not ,I suggest starting to do it now.

Keeping track of your sales is essential in the planning process. Planned sales will be used in your planning of stock levels and purchases. But keeping track of daily sales is the first step in the process.

Look for my next "Business Tips", planning stocks on this blog soon. If you'd like to learn more about the planning process visit my website, http://www.sandywoodford.com/ I welcome comments and suggestions for content on my blog. Sandy
